Friends & Fireworks

All in all, 4th of July weekend was a great one! Got a chance to watch the fireworks at Salty Senoritas with everyone and then just enjoyed some drinks...low key, but still a lot of fun. And after seeing Nick & Katherine, I started to get even more excited for their wedding in October! Each set of bridesmaid and groomsmen are going to have their own "theme" as they are introduced to the reception... I think we decided on the theme for my groomsman and myself as "Top Gun," where we both wear aviator sun glasses and walk in to the theme song from the movie! haha. I'm looking forward to all the fun festivities in the months to come for sure! I don't know what it is about weddings, but I just get so excited! I think it's that embedded gene that all girls have in them... lol

Another exciting thing about this past weekend, was that Leslie and Michael welcomed their first child on Friday, July 2nd, 2009! Braeden James Fleming. I am just so happy for them! I also am beginning to feel old though... considering just how long I have known Leslie. Or maybe it's me reflecting on all the former ball kids who are either married and/or have kids that makes me feel old. Please note: no, I am not the next ball kid in line to have children (*knock on wood*) or get married...well, yet anyways. For now, I am perfectly happy being 24 years old and not being settled down yet. I'm really having the time of my life right now.

And finally, while on the subject of happiness, I am anxiously awaiting that phone call from work so I can finally get the ball rolling on my job and sign my official contract. I'm slightly nervous as I wait though, just from the stand point of the economy...eek! But other teachers have reassured me in the meantime. I think I'm just getting a little antsy (oh and broke) while I wait it out. The summers are great, but even with Mercury, I am so bored during the day! Not much to do when it's like 150 degrees in your car. Good thing I have this blog :)

Whirl-wind of Emotions

Well for those who don't know, Willie's dad was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. He went through chemotherapy but he needed to have surgery. Today he had the surgery, and boy was it nerve-racking sitting there waiting! They are like my second family so it was tough doing this emotional roller-coaster. It felt like forever waiting in the ICU for that update too! But, roughly 2 hours later, the doctor came in and told us that the cancer hadn't spread and that overall the surgery was a success. Wheeeew! So now he is just going to be in the ICU for awhile recovering. What a crazy day, but I'm thankful and blessed for the overall outcome and we all wish him a speedy recovery!

Till next time...

First Entry (Wooo!)

Ok so I have been sucked into the technology driven world we live in now, and am going to (try) to blog my experiences this upcoming year. So for starters, I will now publicly tell everyone what has been going on since May 2009!

Kindergarten graduation was one to remember. Due to some circumstances, I was put in charge of coordinating and leading the entire kindergarten ceremony (scary)! As nervous as I was though, everything couldn't have gone more smoothly. I presented the parents and staff with a speech followed by a rehearsed ceremony complete with poems and songs that the students put on for everyone. (Still trying to upload the video...it will be on here soon!)

Anyways, later that day I had officially signed my contract for the following year as an aide. Couldn't have been happier, because I loved this past year and honestly couldn't see myself doing anything else next year!

Then June rolled around....and wow! I got a phone call from work one morning (Willie's birthday actually)... and my boss had briefly told me that she had an offer for me and wanted me to come into work ASAP. I thought it might be a small raise, since it had been talked about if the school got the funding. When I got into work though, I was shocked to learn what the offer entailed. They were offering me the pre-school teaching position...complete with a teaching salary, benefits...the works! I couldn't believe it! I was going to have my very own classroom...what an amazing experience!

But the good news didn't stop there. About a week ago, I received an e-mail from work. One of the teachers there had come across a scholarship and had passed along the info to my boss. Evidentally, I qualify for a major scholarship based on my work with children ages birth-5 years. I'm currently waiting for my scholarship packet to come through so I can fill everything out and be ready for the remainder of college :)

So fast-foward to now. I am anxiously waiting for August to roll around...August 17th to be exact lol. So many exciting things...finally! Oh and my plans are to buy a car by December ;-) The rest of my money of course will be going to a house. I can't wait!

SO there ya have it. The absolute latest information in my life! And I will have many more updates on life, love and careers in the near future.
